Put out the “Not Welcome” Sign for Bugs
Many homeowners inadvertently leave out the welcome mat for bugs and pests. Your technician will recommend simple but effective steps you can take to create an unwelcome environment for pests. Simply removing their food supply and breeding sites is a good way to start.
1) Seal it
Make sure all outside doors are well sealed. If you can see light around or beneath it, insects or mice may also be able to come in! Likewise, keep garage doors closed and make sure the weather stripping is in good shape for a tight seal. And check for good screening on gabled attic vents and crawl space vents.
2) Dry it
Dry up any sources of moisture in or around your home. Fix plumbing leaks on the inside and provide proper water drainage away from your home on the outside (gutters, downspouts, etc.).
3) Store it
Eliminate unnecessary clutter around the house and in attics, closets and basements. Keep stored items in sealed containers.
4) Clean it
Clean up spilled food, especially pet food, and don't leave dirty dishes out overnight. Thoroughly wash all fruits and vegetables that are not kept refrigerated to help control fruit flies. Regular vacuuming and cleaning also lessens the likelihood of pest invasions. Remember to change vacuum bags regularly, as they can act as a breeding ground for pests.
5) Trim it
Vegetation creates easy access into your home, so cut back vegetation from your home's roof, eaves, windows and siding. Likewise, keep debris, scraps, mulch and woodpiles away from your home's foundation.
